English Summer Assignment for Grade 9 (basic), Grades 9, 10, 11(HS), Secondary I, and Secondary II

Read thoroughly any novel which seems interesting to you and is up to your level. (Summer School students are not excluded from reading the novel.)

Carry out the following steps after reading the novel. Type the answers and hand in a print out to the teacher of English when back in school.

1. Identify the main and minor characters.
2. Type a full description of two main characters backed up with evidence and
analysis based on the actions and words of the character as well as what other
characters say about him/her that highlight his/her character traits.
3. Type the plot of the novel.
4. Look up in the dictionary the definitions of 20 words. Type the definitions and
use each word in a meaningful sentence.
5. Evaluate the novel altogether commenting on the events, characters, and ending.

N.B. Students will be tested on the content of the novel when back in school after handing in their summer work to the teacher in class on the first day of school. The grade will be considered as a first test. Thirty points will be deducted from the test as penalty for plagiarism in case the work is gotten from the Internet.

Since you have the chance to choose your own novel, you are expected to enjoy reading it!
