English Summer Work 2011

Read a story of your own choice and level. Then, complete the following tasks and hand in a typed copy of your work.  Please bring the story with you on the first day of school.

1.  What is the title of the novel?
2. Who is the author?
3. Mention the main and minor characters.
4. What is the setting?
5. What is the conflict?
6. What are the steps taken to resolve the conflict?
7. What is the climax of the novel?
8. How was the problem resolved?
9. Choose two characters you liked most and then mention their character traits.  Support with evidence from the text: what the characters say, do, think and what other characters say about them.
10. If you were the main character, what would you do differently to resolve the problem?
11. Would this novel make a good movie?  Why or why not?
12. Choose 20 words you found difficult or interesting.  Define them and then use them in meaningful sentences of your own.

 

NB.  You will be tested on the novel on the first day of school.  The grade will be considered as the first test grade of the year.  Your answer sheets will be checked for plagiarism (copying from internet or other sources) and grades will be deducted accordingly.
